A minute with Life & Style

A minute with Peter Anders Hvass Coder by day and organiser of Cyprus Comic Con by night!

Where do you live?
In what I affectionately call the Giant Dwarf Cave in Strovolos, Nicosia! An apartment that I am slowly filling to the brim with all sorts of nerdy junk and paraphernalia.

Best childhood memory?
Begging parents for just one more 10 cent coin at the video game arcade so I could try and finish Final Fight, Knights of the Round or keep competing in Street Fighter or for the high score in Galaga!

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish?
Oshi Innovation in Limassol – great, great Asian cuisine and a very geeky setup! Favourite dish (es) would have to be my girlfriend’s Korean kitchen inventions – can’t get that in a restaurant!

What did you have for breakfast?
A cereal bar! It’s either that or nothing – really don’t ever have time to prepare food!

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
A bit of both really… If we’re talking pastimes I’m a day person for video gaming and a night person for going out. The perfect night out would be a live folk metal night or cosplay club night with drinking horns and silly hats! Perfect day out would involve sifting through second hand electronic scrap and video games at markets!

Best book ever read?
Talking novels; The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson for pure unbridled, uncensored brutality and constant sense of loss of hope. In manga it’d have to be the short FLCL – a beautiful metaphor for puberty!

Favourite film of all time?
Such an impossible question to answer but I’d go for Kikujiro because of the beautiful soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi and my being a big fan of Takeshi Kitano’s films in general – I can really feel for this film! Especially the scenes with the bikers!

Best holiday ever taken? What’s your dream trip?
A month in the depths of stormy winter living on the tiny Greek island, Ikaria! Sourcing fire wood, building fires to stay warm and surviving through stormy weeks of power outages with no ships able to deliver supplies was great, great fun! Dream trip would definitely be a month spent in Japan in cat cafes, temples, bullet trains and geeky stores!

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
A mixture of Anamanaguchi, Slime Girls, Revengineers, Infinity Shred and other assorted chiptune!

What is always in your fridge?
Quorn! Any vegetarian’s happiest human-engineered source of protein (started as a US government project to cheaply solve the world hunger problem and ended up being the most expensive source of protein you can find (in Cyprus anyway)).

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
Definitely urban – the main criteria for me when house hunting is whether it’s in an area with good internet service. The next is a large living room to host LAN parties and gaming nights in. One day I’ll have a floating castle with a fat gigabit pipe and sub-let to geeky, gamer denizens for their gaming needs (read eternal LAN party).

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Arnold Schwarzenegger – but it’d have to be an alternate reality where we’re best friends and our conversation is entirely made out of Arnold-style grunting and exclamations like ‘GET DOWN’, ‘SHUT UP’, ‘PUT THE COOKIE DOWN, NOW’!

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
You mean I only have 24 hours to play through Final Fantasy VII, Fallout 2 and Dungeon Keepr again? O_O; *immediately starts playing*

What is your greatest fear?
The temporary nature of our existence. This really gets to me – there’s only finite time to work with and I may have been born too early to have my brain suspended in vinegar and interfaced with a machine. Ugh.

Tell me a joke…
Final Fantasy (the gamers will get it)
