Fellow students shave in solidarity with sick classmate

Fellow students of Antonis show their support in their own special way

STUDENTS and faculty members of the Xenion High School in Paralimni got together and shaved their heads in solidarity with 12-year-old Antonis, a fellow student, who lost his hair due to chemotherapy.

The event took place at the school’s grounds, with faculty members volunteering to shave the heads of some of the students. The group shaving was held as a surprise for the 12-year-old, who got permission from the hospital to attend.

According to Antonis’ brother and sister, “he was ashamed that he lost his hair and was hesitant to appear in public,” which prompted his fellow students to go ahead with the surprise.

The 12-year-old was accompanied to the school by his father, who was also surprised when he came across students shaving their heads in support of his son.

Antonis’ sister was also present at the event, telling the press “with so much love and support my brother received, Im sure he will be fine.”

The 12-year-old was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He travelled to Germany to receive treatment earlier this year and is currently receiving treatment at the Makarios Hospital. He is expected to head back to Germany in 10 days.

The father made a statement to Sigmalive saying that he was told by doctors that his son had an 80 per cent survival chance.
