Kontides wins silver at Sailing World Cup

Pavlos Kontides became the first athlete to ever win an Olympic medal for Cyprus when he won silver at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the Men’s Laser class

Sailor Pavlos Kontides achieved another great success for Cyprus when he secured the silver medal at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Qingdao, China.

The World Cup concluded on Saturday, with Kontides due to return to Cyprus on Monday.

Kontides became the first Cypriot athlete ever to win an Olympic medal for his country, by winning the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the Men’s Laser class behind Tom Slingsby.

Kontides also competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he finished in 13th place.
