Programme being launched to curb smoking in National Guard

The health and defence ministries are to launch smoking cessation programmes in all National Guard camps, they said on Tuesday.

The purpose of the programmes is “the early cessation of smoking in young people in order to avoid adverse health effects by changing the culture of young soldiers with regard to smoking, to raise awareness regarding the laws on smoking, and information on the effects of passive smoking”.

The health ministry is training 100 soldiers from various camps all this week in how to administer the cessation programmes for other conscripts. The programme will be implemented as of January 2015.
