THE NOMINATION process for the Paphos Hearts of Gold award 2014 is now open.

The philanthropic community-based award is now in its eighth year. It aims to recognise those who have shown tremendous courage, strength and determination, worked tirelessly within the community or for charities, overcome tragedies with a smile or have simply been a great help and support to neighbours and friends.

The award is open to everyone who is a resident of Paphos, of all ages and nationalities and winners are chosen by a panel of ten judges.

Nominations can be made by members of the public via the email below. The award also has a dedicated Facebook page.

Artistic director of ‘Pafos 2017’ Marios Joannou Elia has been named this year’s patron of the award.

“It is an honour to be the patron, as helping each other is such an important part of a successful community,” said Joannou Elia.

“I’m proud that we have so many wonderful people in Paphos and I’m very much looking forward to meeting the nominees at the event.”

There are two categories: the Junior Heart of Gold award for those under 18, and the Heart of Gold award for adults.

Last year’s winners were Pavlina Patsalou, a dedicated volunteer who is feeding the needy and Isabella Sergiou, a young girl who helps out at the same charity.

All of the nominees and their families are invited to attend the ceremony, which will take place at Palia Ilekriki in Paphos at 12 noon on December 12. The awards will be presented by Joannou Elia.

Successful nominees will be presented with their solid gold handmade heart, created and donated by Aphrodite Jewellers.

This year the adult winner will also be presented with a two night stay and dinner at the five star luxury Almyra hotel in Paphos.

This year, Sunshine radio is also running a campaign in support of the award, which will get underway in a few days. This will include a dedicated page being created at their website.

Nominations must be received by Friday December 5.
