THE Alzheimer’s Association Famagusta branch is hosting a free mini check-up on Saturday in cooperation with the Maouri Hearing Centre.
From 10am to 2pm, visitors can have their blood pressure, blood sugar and hearing tested at the centre on Grivas Digenis Street in Paralimni.
Also on Tuesday at 7pm, the association will introduce the first sensory room at the Alzheimer’s support centre, 243 Protaras Avenue in Paralimni, designed to help people suffering from the disease, sleeping disorders or any other condition that could benefit from its calming effects.
The room is designed to develop senses with the help of a LED projector that displays images, an aroma diffuser, tranquil music and fibre optic wands.
“We do it as an offer to people in the area. We can offer it to anybody who feels they can benefit from it,” said Jenny Parsons, secretary of the support centre.
She added that the room could also help hyper kinetic children since the multi-sensory experience it offers, helps them calm down.
Entrance to the facility is free but donations are welcome to help pay for utilities.
