Ivory arrests

POLICE arrested two men, 38 and 44, as well as a 27-year old woman yesterday, in connection with a quantity of ivory found in one of the suspects’ apartment.

According to a police report, they raided the man’s apartment and seized five ivory statues and a piece of raw ivory.

The 38-year old was released after investigators determined that he wasn’t involved in the case.

The 44-year old told police that he brought the ivory from the north and didn’t know they were forbidden. Police are looking into whether transporting ivory constitutes a green line trade violation, said police spokesman Andreas Angelides.

The 27-year old woman – whose involvement in the case is also being investigated – was kept in custody after police discovered that she was in Cyprus illegally.
