Illegal immigrant injured while trying to escape police

A 37-YEAR-OLD illegal immigrant injured himself on Tuesday night after he went through a glass door in order to escape capture by police.

According to a police report, this was when drug squad and immigration members raided an apartment complex in Larnaca, in search of the 37-year-old.

Once the man realised the presence of police, he tried to escape through his flat’s back door.

But the raiding officers spotted him hiding in another apartment and arrested him.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the 37-year-old had been deported twice in the past but returned to Cyprus through an illegal entry point.

It also revealed that, during his getaway attempt the man had been injured by a shattered glass door and was rushed to Larnaca general for treatment.

Two police members also joined him there after they were injured while chasing the 37-year-old, one having suffered a sprain in his right ankle and the other lacerations on his left leg.
