Nicosia municipality has awarded shop space to 39 out of 70 applicants for this year’s pop-up festival, it said on Wednesday.
The festival is being held for the second year running in an effort to revitalise an almost deserted Makarios Avenue in the heart of the capital. It will run from November 15 to January 15.
“For the next two months, young entrepreneurs, authors, artists, artisans and other professionals and startups will present their innovative ideas and show their work to the public,” the municipality said in an announcement.
It had managed to secure more than double the number of empty shops this year. In 2013 ten shops had available space while this year the number had risen to 27, it said.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, in association with the Pierides Foundation [NiMAC].
The major objective is to gather the most innovative, inventive and creative talents in the field of entrepreneurship, entertainment and culture.
The festival will be accompanied by a range of parallel activities – educational, cultural and recreational – focusing on the active participation of the public.
The festival will be open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am to 1.30pm and 3.30pm to 8pm.
Opening hours are not binding for those shops and venues wishing to hold scheduled events beyond the hours listed above.
