The Pancyprian Nurses Union is to stage a protest outside the House and then the health ministry on November 18 as a first step to ensuring their rights under the new NHS, they announced on Thursday.
Hospital services will not be affected by the protest, the union said.
It said nurses supported the new reform plans for better patient care but warned if their own basic demands were not heeded, measures would escalate.
They are seeking assurances for their continued status as public servants and all that goes along with it. They also want the freeze on 189 vacant positions to be filled, unfreezing of promotions, securing a shift allowance and the clarification of contracts for temporary nursing staff and new hires.
