UNIVERSITY of Cyprus rector Constantinos Christophides was elected unopposed yesterday, as was vice-rector for Academic Affairs Athanasios Gagatsis, with the head of the state institution declaring that “more colleagues and students share today my vision for a different university.”

He added that the start of the new rectory in the midst of an economic crisis is marked by the impressive funding of the European Investment Bank as well as by significant donations from benefactors that will allow the building development of the university’s campus.

He said that this was a project for which all generations of Cypriots would benefit.

Gagatsis said that he would work hard along with the rector and his other counterparts for excellence in research and teaching at the university.

The new vice-rector for International Affairs, Finance and Administration is Constantinos P. Constantinou who won 38 votes more than incumbent Marios Mavronicolas.

“It is time for action and cooperation so that we can make a reality the vision of the interconnection between science and society,” Constantinou said.
