UK: a shared past ‘matters very much’

British High Commissioner Damian Roderic Todd

BRITAIN IS determined to do everything it can to help bring about a settlement to the Cyprus problem, British High Commissioner in Nicosia Damian Roderic Todd said on Monday.

Speaking after a meeting with ruling DISY chief Averof Neophytou, Todd said the two had exchanged views on a range of issues.

“We talked quite a lot about how Britain and Cyprus have so many things in common, our shared past, our shared history which brings good things, not just good things, and lot of emotions, which I think matter very much,” he said.
Todd said that they also talked about the need to find a settlement to the Cyprus problem. “We absolutely agree that this is in the interest of Cypriots, of the region and it would be an enormous asset for this region, for the people of Cyprus, for Europe, if we can find that settlement”.
“The UK and I personally are determined to do everything we can to help bring about that settlement,” he added. (CNA)
