Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a get well message to President Nicos Anastasiades, the government said on Friday.

The message read: “I wish to express my wholehearted sincere encouragement and support in view of the surgical procedure that you underwent.  I wish you wholeheartedly the fastest full recovery and an auspicious return to your duties. I hope that we will meet soon”.

Anastasiades who has just undergone heart surgery in New York had hoped to travel to Moscow before Christmas on an official visit but had to postpone due to the pending operation.

According to reports from New York, where the president is receiving post-operative care at the Mount Sinai hospital, Anastasiades’ recovery is going well.

Anastasiades underwent a mitral valve repair procedure on Tuesday. During the surgery, performed by Dr David Adams and his team, the president’s triglochin valve was also repaired, as was an issue he had with occasional heart arrhythmia.

He could be in hospital for another four or five days before being transferred to his hotel to recuperate prior to his journey home before Christmas.
