Greek Cypriot negotiator at the UN-backed talks on the Cyprus problem Andreas Mavroyiannis is currently holding a series of meetings in Washington with officials of the US administration, members of Congress and think-tanks.

According to diplomatic sources, Mavroyiannis met on Monday with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Amanda Sloat and officials of the American-Jewish organizations AJC and AIPAC.

He also informed senior aides of 35 members of the House and the Senate and answered to their questions.

Mavroyiannis will meet today Tuesday with the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland.

According to the same sources, he has informed his interlocutors on the developments in the Cyprus problems, especially after the Turkish provocations.

He underlined that the Cyprus government remains fully committed to a settlement, noting that the problem lies in the intransigence of the Turkish Cypriot side and Ankara and the provocations of Turkey in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

He talked about the efforts made by the Cyprus government to end these violations/provacations so as not to allow the creation of a new fait accompli.

Mavroyiannis will also meet with the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Robert Menendez and other members of the Congress, as well as with officials of the National Security Council.

On Wednesday he will speak at the German Marshal Fund think-tank.
