FM official in Moscow

Permanent Secretary of Foreign Ministry, Alexander Zenon has discussed the Cyprus problem and Turkish violation of the island`s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Αleksey Y. Meshkov in Moscow.
A statement on Wednesday from the foreign ministry said that during the meeting both sides assessed bilateral relations and reaffirmed ties between the two countries. On the agenda was also the preparation of President Nicos Anastasiades’ visit to Russia scheduled for early 2015.
The Russian Minister reiterated his country`s firm position on Cyprus, saying a solution must be based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. He also said that Cyprus` sovereign right in its EEZ must be respected, on the basis of the international law and the Law of the Sea.
During the meeting the two men also discussed international and regional issues such as the crisis in Ukraine, the relations between EU and Russia and the situation in the Middle East. (CNA)
