Tomorrow Nicosia will bring two very different exhibitions: solo exhibition In-between by Nikos Papalouka at the municipal gardens in Nicosia; and digital collage exhibition Colour of the Spheres by Annie Damianou at Prozak.

Papalouka will present his latest sculptures, jewellery creations and collages, which were inspired by the idea of a man and his location. This idea comes from the artist’s professional journey so far and his new creations are illustrations of his life’s work.

Audience members will be faced with flat sculptures and jewellery designed to create great visual effects. These creations were materialised after the artist studied the notion of a person in one location.

Papalouka explains the process of making art and this new attempt to bring forward the lessons he has learnt and the experiences he has had as an artist so far by saying “art brings to life such creations and forms which cannot be brought to light by logic. It brings a certain truth to the surface and leaves behind fixed ideas and images.

“Through creation, space is given dimension, it makes it of the present time, it makes it unique as if it had never excised before, making us feel as if we can exist in a way we have never been before.”

The pieces on display will transform space into an optical journey. Each journey depends on the viewer’s visual perception and the understanding they have of space and time. In this exhibition objects are not just objects, they are abstract transformations that go above and beyond the nature of sight and ask to be seen through a mental interpretation.

On Friday, those present can also listen to a talk by Dr Kleito Ioannidi on The Archetype of Myth and Art, in Greek.

The Colour of the Spheres is Damianou’s first official personal exhibition. A freelance graphic designer, she will present a digital college that presents the basic colours used by drivers, used for creating an atmosphere, and landscapes.
Damianou, from Limassol, characterises her work as having “a view from afar” feel.

Her body of work concentrates on combining collages, patterns and illustrations to create a tapestry of digital creations. She also experiments with black and white photography and textures. The graphic designer has worked with various professionals and advertising studios since 2006. She curates pieces for the online arts blog Gazette Inspiration Collector, which she launched in 2011.
