CYPRUS recorded a higher percentage than the EU28 average of internet “illiterate” in 2014, with 28 per cent of the population having no experience of internet use (ether at home, at work or elsewhere).
The country with the highest figure was Romania at 39 per cent. The EU28 average was 18 per cent.
Following Romania the highest percentage was recorded in Bulgaria (33 per cent), Greece (33 per cent), Italy (32 per cent) and Portugal (30 per cent).
At the opposite end of the scale, less than 10 per cent of the population had never used the internet in Denmark (3 per cent), Luxembourg (4 per cent), the Netherlands (5 per cent), Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom (all 6 per cent).
The share of daily users among the population ranged in 2014 from 32 per cent in Romania to 85 per cent or more in Denmark (85 per cent) and Luxembourg (87 per cent). In Cyprus daily users amounted to 56 per cent.
