Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland visited President Nicos Anastasiades at his hotel in New York, where he is recuperating after having recently undergone heart surgery.
Talking to journalists after the meeting President Anastasiades said that the purpose of Ms Nuland`s visit was to convey to him, hers and the US Secretary of State John Kerry`s best wishes for a speed recovery.
Given the situation as it stands on the Cyprus issue and the presence of Turkish seismic exploration vessel “Barbaros” in Cyprus` Exclusive Economic Zone, he said, there was nothing to discuss.
My position was very clear that we will, under no circumstances, accept that the Republic of Cyprus` sovereign rights are questioned in any way he stressed.
“The solution of the Cyprus problem will provide the answer in the hydrocarbons issue”, he noted.
Later on in the day President Anastasiades will receive Archbishop of America Demetrios.
Later on Wednesday, he will receive UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
On Thursday evening he will attend a dinner in his honour hosted by the Cyprus Federation of America and the World Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” (PSEKA).
He is expected to depart from New York, on Saturday.
