Something…new

By Maria Gregoriou

The Greek band Imam Baildi will rock Limassol on Sunday, Larnaca on Monday, and Nicosia on Tuesday with their own take on old Greek songs.

The eight member band is celebrating the release of its new album and are ready to take 2015 by storm with a whirl-wind of gigs, new ideas, old stories told in a new way, and lots and lots of songs.

You would never have thought it but the band proves to its audience time and time again how good old Greek songs can join new musical genres, such as hip-hop, to create a delight to our musical ears.

The band, who are Orestis and Lysandros Falireas, Alexis Arapatsakos, Giannis Diskos, Periklis Aliopis, Lambis Kountourogiannis, Stelios Provis, MC Yinka, and Rena Morfi, released their debut album in 2007. The self-titled album was very well received and since then the band has given many live performances in Greece and Europe.

So pick a night and book a date with the band and be sure that you will hear what a bouzouki sounds like while flirting with an electric vibe, how an old sound can be refreshed to welcome new audiences and win over an older crowd who may still be reminiscing about the good old days.
