Actual number of unemployed persons increased in December

Unemployed stand in line for benefits

The number of unemployed people in December 2014 recorded an increase based on the actual data, while based on the seasonally adjusted data the number of registered unemployed decreased, compared to November 2014.
According to the Statistical Service, unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of December 2014, reached 47,886. Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for December 2014 decreased to 46,586 persons in comparison to 47,092 in the previous month.
In comparison with December 2013, a decrease of 2,581 persons or 5.1 per cent was recorded which was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (a decrease of 1,254 unemployed persons), trade (a decrease of 1,157), manufacturing (a decrease of 753), financial and insurance activities (a decrease of 745), professional, scientific and technical activities (a decrease of 381), education (a decrease of 276) and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 342).
During the same period there was also an increase in unemployment in the sectors of accommodation and food service activities (an increase of 1,442 unemployed persons) and public administration (an increase of 899).
The average number of registered unemployed for the year 2014 reached 47,197 compared to 46,765 in 2013, an increase of 0.9 per cent. (CNA)
