Five flights destined for Beirut in neighbouring Lebanon were diverted to Larnaca International Airport on Tuesday night according to Hermes Airports spokesman Adamos Aspris.
Aspris said the diversion was deemed a necessity due to the strong winds at Beirut airport.
The region is in the grip of extreme weather. Over the last two days, Cyprus has been faced to with heavy rainfall that resulted in houses flooding, extremely low temperatures – expected to even reach zero degrees Celsius on Wednesday night – and heavy snowfall.
