Man shoots ex, threatens to kill himself (Updated)

AN ARMED 43-year-old Greek Cypriot locked himself in his pub in Oroklini, Larnaca, threatening to take his life with his shotgun after his ex-wife filed a complaint with local police that he had shot her, a police statement said on Monday.

According to the police, around 10 am a 41-year-old Moldovan woman and some friends visited the 43-year-old at his pub in the Dhekelia-Oroklini road, in order to discuss child support dues.

But at some point her former husband lost his temper and fired his shotgun twice, resulting in the woman’s injury.

Reportedly, two pellets hit her shoulder and one hit her abdomen.

The injured woman rushed to the Oroklini police station to report the incident, while the 43-year-old locked himself in the pub.

When Larnaca police arrived at the scene, the man refused to cooperate and threatened to take his own life.

Late into the late police were still negotiating with the man.

Police cordoned off the scene to protect restaurants near the pub, and ordered the evacuation of some nearby buildings.

According to police reports, the 43-year-old continued to refuse to exit the pub, saying he does not want to go to jail.
