The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will be presenting three concerts in Paphos, Limassol and Nicosia this week under the title Musical Clock of Yesterday and Today.
The concert, which will feature soloist Yuri Zhislin on the viola, who will receive his musical direction by conductor Plamen Djouroff, juxtaposes the classical style with the twentieth century styles.
The musical clock’s first chime will bring to the stage the Serenade for strings by contemporary Cypriot composer Nicos Troullos. It will then tick backwards to take us to the 1950s with Bohuslav Martinu’s viola concerto, known for its moving lyrical passages and intense climaxes. Finally, the audience will be transported even further into the past with Joseph Haydn’s popular Clock Symphony
