Fancy yourself as a bit of an Indiana Jones? Or maybe you loved the movie Saw (the first one anyway, when the thrills and chills were still original) and you also enjoy cracking some mind games.
Let’s face it, we all have an adventurous side but, as luck would have it, we don’t all live on a movie set and spend hours and hours in make-up to become a superhero. So, for those who don’t have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, Adventure Rooms will be giving you, and a group of friends, the key to a mission you don’t want to pass up.
So great, we’ve given you a swell introduction, woken up your wild side and now you want to know exactly what Adventure Rooms is all about?
Don’t look any further, here is all your intrigued mind needs to know, for now anyway (we wouldn’t give all the secrets away).
Adventure Rooms is a real, live action game for groups of players which started in Switzerland and then spread its wings to build adventurous rooms in Europe and North America.
And now Cyprus is to have its own very own place where adventures may be housed in Strovolos, Nicosia as of Wednesday.
The game truly begins when you and your group – a team can have either three to four members, or five to six members – are locked in a room. Once the key turns in the lock, time starts counting backward from 60 minutes, just enough time for you and your team to find the exit.
If your group is larger and consists of six to 12 people then you will play in what is called a duel, in which the team is split in two. The newly formed teams will now have to play against each other and try to finish first.
The only weapon against beating the clock will be your minds. Make sure your thinking is sharp because the room will throw a few riddles your way and if you manage to solve them, then you can retrieve the key and make your escape.
The game is not dangerous, nor does it require physical skills and the room may be alerted to specific needs. It may have a few elements of horror lurking behind the locked door, but they are not so frightening that anyone over 14 years old cannot participate.
As a start, the facilities offer two rooms: the Original Game and the Missing Finger.
You can have a little break from real life for an hour, perhaps arrange with your friends to play along as a treat for your birthday, or visit a room where working as a team could be the perfect way for family members to connect and for the youngsters in the family to gain some self-confidence (and maybe play a few tricks on mum and dad).
The adventure game has topped lists of attractions on TripAdvisor, the American travel website which reviews travel destinations, in all the countries where it has been established. Players have also written very enthusiastic comments in the website’s forum.
So come along to Adventure Room Cyprus as of Wednesday – and don’t fret if you don’t really think of yourself as the adventurous type, you can still have a laugh and a bit of puzzle-solving. Just remember, it’s ‘all in the mind’.
