Prison guard’s home bombed

Home surveillance will apply to those sentenced to 12 months or under, provided they have already served one third of their sentence

A bomb exploded outside the home of a prison guard in Astromeritis early on Wednesday, police said.

No one was injured in the 2.10am blast but damage was caused to a car and the home’s windows.

Police said the blast was caused by an improvised high-explosive device placed in the yard.

The motives behind the blast were being sought in the man’s work environment but “there is no specific lead so far,” police spokesman Andreas Angelides said.
