Cold snap looms

Isolated showers are expected on Tuesday but temperatures returned to normal levels for this time of year ahead of am extra-cold snap expected from Thursday.

Tuesday’s temperatures were to hover around 15C inland and around 16C in coastal areas and around 4C in mountainous areas.

Temperatures are expected to start dropping from Wednesday by two or three degrees,  and take a further dive on Thursday by around six degrees, the met office said.

On Thursday temperatures are expected to be 6C to 7C inland, some ten degrees lower than normal for this time of year.

According to the met office, from late on Wednesday rain, storms, and snow are expected in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, with some snow even at lower altitudes.

Temperatures are expected to rise marginally on Friday.

According to the latest police announcement, all roads leading to Troodos, (Prodromos-Troodos, Platres-Troodos and Karvounas-Troodos) are open only to vehicles with snow chains or four-wheel drive.

Furthermore, due to the formation of frost in the mountainous areas, drivers are urged to be very careful, police said.
