Bar review: Tube: The Molecular Bar, Limassol

By Stephanie Robb

Original in thought and presentation, Tube offers an original night out experience filled with drinks out of a mad scientists dream.

The concept behind Tube is to add a twist of science behind the drinks and within the décor of the bar. Low, colourful lighting helps add to the experience as the main focus becomes the bar filled with an array of colours, test tubes and wild glass shapes. Even the table decorations have a twist as large fish bowls, or test tubes are filled with dry ice to emit the smoky effect that is sure to delight.

When it comes to the drinks, there is a choice between sweet or bitter drinks, which makes choosing much easier. If you are a fan of bitter drinks one of your best choices is Eva’s Sin, a vodka-based cocktail with a splash of green apple and lime and caviar aperol pieces. Coming with a small piece of dry ice, the drink will excite as well as please the taste buds. Due to the dry ice the caviar pieces dance around frantically making it as exciting to watch, as it is to drink. When it comes to a sweet-tasting drink a great option is the Rose Martini made with vodka and rose liqueur in foam form. The drink has two levels – the foamy rose liqueur and the lower level which is actually the vodka base cocktail.

Moreover, the shots in the drink are also served with a molecular twist. As they are placed in a liquid that creates a hard sphere, these bite sized shots are sure to excite. The best of the shots options to be enjoyed with a group of friends is the tube pallet, which is a pallet of spoon-sized shots of different tastes. Another interesting shot option is Sid, a shot in ice cream form made with passion fruit vodka.

All in all, Tube is a bar that is meant to be experienced and is sure to delight. Great cocktails and exciting presentations become tantalising. However be prepared to make a reservation as it tends to get busy during the weekends and also do not expect that the price will fall on the cheap end.
