Two youths were seriously injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into traffic lights and shops in Limassol early on Thursday, police said.

The pair, aged 20 and 18, were rushed to hospital in serious but not life threatening condition.

They were travelling in a car with two others when the 20-year-old, who was driving, apparently lost control and crashed sideways into the traffic lights on 28 October Avenue at 1.40am.

The car then climbed onto the pavement and hit another set of traffic lights and two shops before coming to a halt on a metal pole.

All four were taken to hospital where the 18-year-old was treated for head injury and lung contusion.  The driver was diagnosed with fractures to his arm and thorax.

The two other passengers, also aged 20 and 18, sustained minor injuries.
