The UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide will be in Cyprus next Monday through to Wednesday.
An announcement from the UN said his schedule would include meetings with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders and their respective negotiating teams, as well as a range of other interlocutors. “As part of his outreach to other actors who have a crucial role to play in efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement, Mr Eide will also host an event for women civil society representatives and media from both communities,” the announcement said.
It said the UN envoy was looking forward to the visit as a chance to continue his the dialogue with the leaders on the resumption of structured negotiations.
The Cyprus talks have been stalled since last October when the Greek Cypriot side withdrew in response to Turkey’s plans to carry out seismic explorations in the island’s exclusive economic zone.
