Teacher remanded on suspicion of sexual abuse of teen girl

A 49-year-old Larnaca high-school teacher was remanded in custody on Wednesday for eight days in connection with sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

Reports said the man was arrested after the girl complained to police that she was being sexually abused.

The hearing was held behind closed doors.

The girl claimed that it all started in September, with the start of the school year, and went on until Tuesday, when the case was reported.

Reports said the 49-year-old suspect had been reported for similar acts in the past when he taught in Nicosia but no other information was given.

This was the second such case in 24 hours.

Police in Paphos arrested a 63-year-old on suspicion of sexually exploiting a girl,13.

The man, a taxi driver, was arrested after he was reported by a member of the public who saw him engage in sexual acts with the girl in a parking lot.

As soon as the suspect noticed the bystander he got into his taxi and drove away but the onlooker gave the car’s plate numbers to the police.

Police said that the 13-year-old admitted that over the past two or three months the 63-year-old had been giving her a small amount of money after having sex with him.

The suspect reportedly denies any involvement and said he was only helping her out financially. He was remanded for six days on Wednesday
