Islamic state recruitment tip-off unfounded, say police

Police questioned two Syrian men in Limassol after allegations that they had been recruiting compatriots to join the Islamic State.

The allegations proved unfounded, according to police who questioned both men, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

Acting on a tip-off a search was conducted in Platres, Omodos and Vasa Kilaniou, Limassol CID chief Ioannis Sotiriades said. Three search warrants were issued for the areas where Syrian men were thought to be recruiting countrymen to join ISIS.
