Subsidy scheme for ‘green’ homes

Solar panels being installed on a residential roof

The energy ministry has announced the first call for submission of proposals for the upgrade of residential buildings.

It is estimated that each unit will be given a subsidy of between 50 and 70 per cent according to the type of investment – roof and wall insulation, installation of solar panels, smart meters, shading and installation of various energy efficient systems for cooling and heating.

The highest amount given for each home is set at €25,000 or €20,000 for each unit within a building, the announcement said.

Only one application may be submitted per unit.

The €8m project is being co-funded by the government and EU cohesion funds.

Applications will be accepted between April 6 and December 23, 2016 or until the available budget for the first call is exhausted.

For more info or for the scheme’s guide visit or call 22606060, 22606014, 22606016, 22606035.
Instructions on how to apply are also available at the district offices of the ministry of energy, commerce, industry and tourism.
