A flute, a clarinet and a piano

By Maria Gregoriou

The weekend will be filled with chamber music concerts performed by musicians from the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra in Nicosia and Paralimni.

Tonight the trio, Angelos Angelides on the clarinet, Virginie Bove on the flute and Elena Mitella-Violari on piano, will be playing at the Pallas theatre in Nicosia and tomorrow at the Paralimni Town Hall.

The concert will begin with the solo flute composition Atmospheres ΙΙΙ by Cypriot composer Artemis Aifotiti. Following will be Francis Poulenc’s Flute Sonata and Clarinet Sonata. Both pieces are emotionally charged and follow a prolific melody.

The two following pieces will be Dimitri Shostakovich’s Four Waltzes for flute, clarinet and piano and Camille Saint-Saens’ Tarantella, op.6 in A minor flute, clarinet and piano. Both composers were inspired to compose these dance pieces to combine these three instruments, which are rarely put together.

Both concerts promise to fill your evening with a joyous atmosphere and a new found love for chamber music.
