Man arrested on suspicion of stealing watches worth €130,000

A 43-year-old man from Kalo Chorio in Limassol was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of stealing five watches worth €130,000 from the collection of an 80-year-old.

The elderly man reported to police that the suspect had visited his home last month after asking to photograph his boxed collection of watches, which he did.

Then as the 80-year0-old walked him out, the suspect said he had left his phone inside and went back in to get it, and left a few minutes later.

The pensioner re-entered the house and put away the box of watches without looking inside. He did not notice that some were missing until he opened the box again  on March 19 and realized that five of the 15 watches were missing.  Their estimated worth is €130,000.

Police arrested the suspect who is due in court on Monday.
