Police have launched a manhunt for an armed robber and a possible getaway driver after a McDonalds in Polemidhia, Limassol was robbed at gunpoint in the early hours of Monday.

According to report, the robber, who fired a shot that hit a computer screen, got away with around €30,000.

Limassol CID chief Yiannis Soteriades told the Cyprus News Agency that the perpetrator entered the restaurant at around 3am, having covered his face with a hood. He was holding a gun.

He then went into the back office where staff were counting the takings and had the safe open.

“In an effort to intimidate employees, the perpetrator fired a shot that hit the computer screen,” said Soteriades, adding that after he took the money, he fled on foot. Police believe he had someone waiting for him in a car.
