Irini Charalambidou

House President Yiannakis Omirou on Monday condemned threats against AKEL deputy Irini Charalambidou, calling on police to find the perpetrator or perpetrators as soon as possible.

“I condemn in the strongest manner the bullying made threats… such despicable actions are beyond criminality their nature and undermine democratic institutions such as the House of Representatives,” he said in a statement.

On Sunday it was reported that Charalambidou had received death threats by phone.

Police said they were taking the matter seriously and had increased patrols near her home.

Charalambidou reported to police that she had received three such calls from three different numbers. The threats were made not only against her personally but also members of her family.
