Jail for poacher found with drugs

A Paphos court jailed a 38-year-old man for two-and-a-half years in Tuesday for possession of cocaine and illegal possession of wild game.

The man had been arrested in October 2, 2011.

He had failed to stop for a police check while driving, but was followed by officers who later secured a search warrant for his home.

During the search, officers found 144 wild birds believed to be black caps, or ambelopoulia, a bag containing what was thought to be moufflon meat, one gramme of cocaine, and €1,900 in cash.
