An assault rifle reported missing from a Larnaca garrison was found under a tree inside the camp, police said on Tuesday.
The weapon was found by soldiers and police officers in the morning.
Earlier, police said they were looking into the theft of a G3 rifle reported at Koshi at around 6pm on Monday.
It followed an unscheduled 4.30pm call to test the conscripts’ readiness. Unhappy with their response time, the head officer sent them back to their barracks.
He repeated the exercise at 6pm during which a soldier reported that he could not find his G3 rifle at the location he had left it after the first call.
The National Guard and the police were trying to determine who had taken the weapon and why.
