Tourist injured in mugging

A 67-year-old tourist has been mugged while on holiday in the Famagusta district.

According to his statement to police, the man was walking with his wife at 9pm on Sunday evening when a moped with two people on it passed them. As they passed they attempted to steal a bag the man was carrying.

When they failed to do so they left the scene.

When the bag was pulled, the tourist fell to the ground and was injured. He was taken to a private clinic in Ayia Napa where doctors diagnosed he had broken his collar bone, had bruising on the neck and cuts on his forehead.

CID Famagusta is investigating.
