Dr Eamonn Jessup, also known as the 'Radio Doctor'.

By Bejay Browne

PEYIA medical centre in Paphos is offering patients the opportunity to book appointments with two of the top healthcare professionals from the UK.

British GP Dr Eamonn Jessup, highly regarded and regularly appears on BBC1 and ITV news bulletins and also often appears on BBC Radio Wales as “the radio doctor”, is currently available at the facility.

He has been available for appointments at the Peyia centre throughout April and will remain in May. This is the doctor’s second visit, following a two week attachment last September.

Dr Jessup is a senior partner in one of the largest GP practices in North Wales, which is responsible for 18,500 patients. He is the chair for the main consultative body for GPs in North Wales and also holds a seat on the chief negotiating body for GPs across Wales.

The doctor has already undertaken hundreds of appointments in Peyia and carried out numerous medication reviews.

According to Peyia medical centre managing director and nurse practitioner Nicky Gibson, Jessup is enjoying his time at the centre so much that he has invited fellow doctor and friend, Dr Dave Wood MBE, to the medical centre during his sabbatical to Paphos in May.

Gibson said: “This is part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the best and up to date healthcare in the Paphos region and I know that our patients will enjoy meeting Dr Wood, who will work alongside resident British GP, Dr Roy Lunt and other staff member. We are really looking forward to the knowledge and experience he will bring to our medical centre this month”.

The nurse practitioner said that Dr Wood, has many years of experience working as a GP and specialises in ophthalmology and cardiology.

“He is committed to medical education and training and has been assessing British GPs on an annual basis for many years. This earned him an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in December 2012 for his services to education and training in general practice,” she said.

He has also been awarded a lifetime achievement award by The Welsh Assembly Government for his contribution to general practice.

Dr Jessup is also making a number of guest appearances on 90.8FM Sunshine Radio during his time in Paphos.
