Two arrested for growing cannabis

Two men were arrested in the Famagusta district in connection with cultivating over 1,600 cannabis plants, police said.

The pair from Avgorou, aged 30 and 35, were caught in the act in a field in the Ayios Georgios area.

Police said they counted 1,685 plants measuring between seven and 65 centimetres.

On the 30-year-old, police found a plastic bag containing around three grammes of cannabis. An additional 40 grammes were found in a car belonging to the other suspect.

Police said they found 60 more grammes of the drug at the 35-year-old’s home.

The two are expected to be brought before a court on Wednesday.
