The tourist area of Limassol has been slightly overlooked recently due to the proliferation of bars that pop up what seems to be every minute in the Old Town. However there are gems lying in the tourist area and one of those is the fairly new kid on the block, the Brooklyn Dyker Heights.
Advertised as a speakeasy public house, the bar celebrates the golden era of the roaring twenties, invoking an atmosphere of American and Italian cultures, alcoholic beverages, bright colours and soulful tunes.
Brooklyn Dyker Heights is all about crazy cocktails and American/Italian food and it makes an ideal night out. Sticking with the prohibition era theme, all cocktails are aptly named to fit that period. I was pleasantly delighted by the Martini Royale, made with Martini Bianco, Martini Prosecco and fresh lime. The combination of the bitter taste of the Martini with the pop of sour and spark from the Prosecco and the Lime make this a refreshing drink, ideal for those encroaching summer nights. Another cocktail, which is a great strong drink for those who just love a hearty dose of alcohol, is the British Heritage made with beefeater gin, teacher’s whiskey, Angostura aromatic bitters, cherry and pineapple syrup, fresh orange juice and soda water. However, this is only a small snippet of the mouthwatering selections they have.
For those who aren’t huge fans of cocktails, Brooklyn Dyker Heights also offers a decent wine selection with sparkling, white and red wine selections mainly from Cyprus and Italy. But that’s not all, you can also have any liquor selection you wish teamed with your choice of mixer. All the drinks though can be perfectly teamed with their cheese or meat platters, or with their amazing burgers.
Either way, Brooklyn Dyker Heights is something original and has something new to offer in Limassol that will surely please, so make sure you pencil it in during your next outing.
