Nicosians called to put out bulky items for free collection

Nicosia Municipality on Thursday announced the dates for the second 2015 cleanup during which it will collect pruning waste and bulky items free of charge.

Each area within the municipality has been divided into sections for collection on different dates.

Collection in Ayios Andreas for instance will be divided over three dates starting May 11 to 24 covering different streets.

Collections in the Trypiotis area will be carried out between June 8 and 17, Ayios Omoloyites May 11 to June 17, Ayios Antonios June 18 to July 3, Pallouriotissa May 11 to July 3, inside the walls between May 25 and June 7, Ayios Constantinos and Eleni June 18 to July 3, Kaimakli May 11 to June 30, Taht El Kale June 1 to 3, Yeni Mosque June 10 to 12 and Omorfita May 25 to 29.

Leaflets have already been sent to residents detailing which dates their streets fall under. Items should not be put out more than two days ahead of scheduled collection to avoid any impediment to traffic or pedestrians.

The municipality is calling on residents to put out particularly dried vegetation for collection to avoid any possibility of fire during hot weather.

It also calls on the owners of empty grounds to clean them up within a certain time period set out in notices that have been issued to them or face being charged €75 by the municipality if it has to do the job for them.

In addition, and due to demand from the public, the municipality has set up a ‘green space’ in Kaimakli where residents can leave their bulky items, vegetation and recyclables for collection, at Yianni Koromia Street. Prunings collected go to the municipality’s composting programme.

A map of the areas to be cleaned up and date details are available on the municipality website at
