The Home for Cooperation in Nicosia (H4C) is taking the month of May very seriously – well, seriously when it comes to entertainment, food and a bit of education. The non-governmental organisation, whose aim is to provide a space for intercommoned cooperation, is well known for hosting events which clearly veer away from the main stream.
The Home Café in particular is planning a series of events over the next two months, starting this Tuesday.
The Café will be hosting jam sessions, screenings, workshops, food and music, pop-up activities, salsa nights and many other performances.
The first event on Tuesday will offer live rembetiko music played by Charalambos Yiorkas and George Andreou and a barbecue.
This is all kicking off at 8pm, just the right time for a dinner of gourmet and traditional delicacies, some rebetiko tunes, and a chance to enjoy the sunset.
Starting Monday, May 18 H4C will be offering a series of writing workshops at 5.30pm.
For those who want to start writing, or who want to write about their lives or subjects of interest – anyone who has stories to tell, this practical workshop may be just what’s needed for the ink to flow, or keyboard to tap.
The workshop series will be run by Nicoletta Demetriou, tutor in Narrative Non-Fiction on the University of Oxford’s Master of Studies in Creative Writing.
The series includes five 90-minute workshops in English. In order to book your place and ask any further questions, email [email protected]
The last event focuses on work. It is an intensive workshop under the name Are You Linked in? And, of course, concerns Linkedin. If you don’t have an account on the internet platform, then you won’t know that some headhunters actually look for suitable job candidates on this new – dare we say it – recruitment tool.
Christina Demetriades, an experienced career and life coach, will be running the workshop on May 23. The three hour session is said to teach you how to use this online networking tool, which can refresh your career outlook and lead you to that new job we were talking about.
The workshop will be hands-on, so you will learn how to use Linkedin and practice on the spot. All you need to do is to book your space in advance by sending an email to [email protected] and to bring along your laptop or tablet.
