Thorsten Fink was on Monday sacked as the manager of league leaders APOEL following the champions’ 1-0 defeat at second-placed Apollon in Limassol on Sunday.
The German is the second manager to be fired by the Nicosia giants this season, after Giorgos Donis was let go in early January.
An APOEL statement said the decision to terminate Fink’s contract by mutual agreement was “difficult but necessary” for the interests of the club.
Strangely, Fink is also the third manager to be fired in Cyprus this season while his side have been on top of the standings, following Christakis Christoforou and Ioan Andone’s departures at Apollon.
Gustavo Manduca, APOEL’S current football director, will take charge of the team’s crucial final two league games of the season, as well as the Cyprus Cup final.
