Russia: solution should not be imposed

President Nicos Anastasiades on Monday met Russian Ambassador Stanislav V. Osadchiy at the presidential palace and briefed him on the latest Cyprus developments.

“We will always be on your side. If you need help we will always be willing to do it but we will not intervene in the solution of the Cyprus problem… just watch how things evolve,” the ambassador told reporters outside the palace.

He added that he and Anastasiades had also discussed the situation in Ukraine and other topics.”The meeting was fruitful,” he said.

Asked about a reported warning to ‘other parties’ by the Russian foreign ministry, not to intervene in the Cyprus issue with timetables or imposed solutions, and to whom it was addressed, Osadchiy said: “Everyone. We are in favour of a solution reached by the Cypriots. We do not want to impose a solution on the Cypriots. That is why we say these things. The solution should be found here in Cyprus and not elsewhere, solution that is acceptable to both sides in Cyprus and in line with UN resolutions,” he said.
