An unidentified man wielding a 12-centimetre knife threatened passers-by outside Larnaca’s GSZ stadium around noon on Wednesday, a police report said.

Later on Wednesday, the stadium will host the Cyprus Football Cup Final between Nicosia’s APOEL and Limassol’s AEL.

According to the report, around noon Wednesday a man aged between 35 and 40 waved at a number of cars passing outside the stadium, and threatened them with a knife.

According to witness reports, the man also hit the cars randomly.

Traffic police were alerted, and officers were able to locate and intercept the car in the Pera Chorio, Nicosia, area.

A search of his car revealed a 12-centimetre long knife.

The man was arrested and placed in custody at the Pera Chorio police station.
