St. Barnabas Monastery

Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties will pay a visit to ancient monuments in the Famagusta area, on June 17, in a bid to demonstrate their interest on cultural heritage.

According to an announcement, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic together with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties actively participating at the bi-communal activities organizes the visit.

The purpose of this visit, it is added, is to promote co-operation, dialogue and building trust between the two communities in Cyprus and to show the broader public the interest of political parties to preserve and protect cultural heritage across the island.

According to the draft programme, participants will visit the Othello Tower, in Famagusta, walk within the walls of the old city, pay a visit to the Saint Barnabas Monastery and meet with local citizens at Stylloi village.
