Three meet in music

By Maria Gregoriou

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will be putting on two performances under the name Chamber Music Concerts on Sunday in Larnaca and next Saturday in Nicosia.

The concerts’ programme includes C. Papageorgiou’s Backstage Gossip for flute and violin, a piece dedicated to Virginie Bove which is about the last conversation musicians have, just before appearing on stage.

You will also hear S. A. Horlea’s Little Baroque Suite for violin, flute and harpsichord which was inspired by his love for Italian and French baroque music.

The programme suitably continues with two more baroque gems – J. B. de Boismortier’s Sonatas for flute and violin and G. Fr. Handel’s Trio Sonata. Boismortier’s piece is an example of the flute’s popularity in France at the time while Handel’s sonata exudes boldness of invention and expressive range.

The musicians who will be performing are Virginie Bove on the flute, Sorin Alexandru Horlea on the violin, and Nicolas Melis on the harpsichord.
