Unsettled weather for long weekend

PLANS FOR the long weekend ahead might have to be re-arranged as rain and a dive in temperatures is expected, the met office has announced.

Thursday is expected to be cloudy with temperatures reaching 30C inland, 20C in the mountainous areas, 25C along the western and northern coast and 28C along the southern and eastern coast.

But from Friday until Sunday, local rain, isolated storms and possible hailstorms are expected, while temperatures are expected to drop.

The weather pattern will affect the whole island, the met office said.

Winds are expected to reach up to 6 Beaufort along the western coast and in higher altitude areas.

The forestry department urged the public to avoid actions that could cause fires due to strong winds.

“Throwing cigarette butts on the ground must be avoided. Burning weeds and garbage is prohibited while the use of tools or farm machinery that produce sparks or flames … should be avoided,” the announcement said.
